JANNIS SPYROPOULOS DRAWINGS
Unveiling a hidden archive

A rare glimpse into the unseen sketches of Jannis Spyropoulos.

An unseen perspective on a master of abstraction.
Define
Jannis Spyropoulos (1912–1990) is best known for redefining Greek abstract art, creating a body of work that pushed the boundaries of modern painting. Yet, beyond his celebrated canvases, another side of his practice remained unseen—his private sketches. Kept in his personal archive and never intended for exhibition, these pencil and ink drawings offer a rare glimpse into an artist whose creative process was deeply personal and rarely documented.
Deliver
In collaboration with the Jannis & Zoe Spyropoulos Foundation, this publication brings together over 140 of Spyropoulos’s sketches, made public for the first time. Accompanied by archival photographs, the book traces his evolution from early figurative studies to the moment he fully embraced abstraction, eventually abandoning drawing altogether. More than a visual record, this collection reveals the instinctive, unfiltered nature of his artistic exploration—offering a new way to experience his world, beyond the paintings that defined his legacy.
